Thanks for nothing Citibank Singapore

Citibank Singapore's service sucks. I mean majorly. It must be something about me that makes them hate me, because I seem to be the only one! All my other friends have great service from Citibank Singapore.

I am going to 开门见山 (open door look mountain, means to be succinct). I have got a 欠钱还钱 letter from Citibank Singapore. A letter that looks like a cross between something that came from a loanshark and a kidnap letter.

It says "We have not received the Minimum amount due on your above account. With the gazetting of Credit Bureau (Singapore) Pte Ltd under the Banking Act (Chapter 19) in August 2002, all banks are required to submit their customers' credit records to the bureau." It signs off as "This is a computer generated letter. No signature is required. Credit Control Management Unit."

I owe them $95! My bank account with Citibank Singapore has more than that amount of money! And $60 came from annual fees, which I asked them to waiver and cancel. They refered to another department and they never got back to me, except to charge me another $35 for late fees and to send me a threatening letter.

My action: I sent them back my own email stating "I want to terminate all my credit cards, and credit line services effective July 11th. Please expect legal actions if you do not comply or respond."
I called up customer service which just told me that they cannot help me because they are not 'accounts closure' department, that I would have to call during Singapore operating hours.

I have to call them back during Singapore hours to terminate my credit cards because of no fault of my own? 24 hour service hotline? Secure email contact? Internet international banking? Didn't I see some of these on their website? I told them to leave a note to the accounts closing department and he said he doesn't have my signature authority to do so (granted). But why can't he ask me for my number to call me from, so they can get back to me? Now I have the responsibility to correct a mistake Citibank Singapore did that I have tried to rectify since Mar 2005?

Citibank Singapore has dealt unreasonably with me, I demand justice or an explanation. I have already paid them everything I owe them, so now they owe me. They have unnecessarily tarnished my credit history, I will escalate this until I can tarnish their reputation.

What a horrible experience I've just had with Citibank Singapore!!

They flogged, yes flogged me, a credit card when I visited their show room in Tiong Baru at 2PM on a Sunday. They called back in a few hours to say my card was ready same night at 7!! Amazing speed.

When picking up the card I was told I would recieve a letter in 2-3 working days with my credit limit.
After 3 days no limit letter so I called them and was told they could not find my HR Manager to verify my job. They were advised there was no HR Manager in Singapore as we'd just opened the subsidiary of a US$120M plus US based company. My MD was in Thailand on vacation and I was off to Manila on business and we'd have them call when I got back.
I returned home to recieve a letter that I was NOT APPROVED.
I called about this and they said I was TOO OLD to be issued a card because I was over 60!!

What a crook of XXXX as I recieved my Singapore PR 6 months ago.

Citibank Singapore really has a lot to learn. If this was done in Canada, Australia or the USA they would be sued for age discrimination.

What pissed me was I was given 3 very different excuses AFTER I had been told that I had been approved and my cards were issued.

What a marketing scam by Citibanks marketing department.

BW I have a Gold and Platinum Cards from HSBC with a VERY lage limit. The Citibank card was a card for my new wife who I guess I was too old to marry a month ago....
Screw you Citibank....

BTW how old is the President of Citibank?

Looks like citibank has not changed much.

Recently, I have a bad experience with their credit card department too. I called them at least 3 times to terminate the credit card, each time the staff tells me a different story. One told me can waiver membership bill, another told me it cannot be done, follow by I just need to pay the premiums for "one of the attached plans", and the last one - I need to pay the full bill.

I even told them I want to cancel my card, even if I have to pay the credit card annual membership fees, still they can't give me a straight reply or clear instructions.

They shouldn't even position themselves as a bank that markets to affluent individuals, lousy service and not professional at all.

Hi - i have a similar problem with Citibank Singapore. In fact, it is an old matter which they said i had amounts due (which i did) but which i paid off.

I now understand from my bankers that it has not been recorded when they did a recent check that the amount has been settled.

I have been trying to contact Citibank for ages now - and still nothing.

Is there a number for the Credit Control Management Unit?

Hi, may i know how you resolved this issue with citibank?

Cos like you, I received that note that threatened to blacklist me such that no other bank will ever issue me credit cards, OF NO FAULT OF MINE.

The bank statement from citibank was either lost or delayed in the mail and I only got it later (IN A BULK), I took the intitaive to call them up and ask them for the bills and the customer service person said i should receive it soon but I never did.

In the end i am charged late interest fee and my credit history tt was previously perfect is now tarnished.
I called them to ask about the matter and how i should be punished for no fault of mine, however they said that nothing could be done and this will remain in the system!

On top of that i got very bad customer service.

Mind sharing with me how you got your issue settled?

F*** Citibank....nothing but a bunch of morons working there...should have been wiped out by GFC instead of US government pumping billions into this worthless bank

Yes, do not bank with Citibank or use any of their credit facilities. They do not value long-term customers. They keep getting inexperienced bank officers to speak to you when you have obviously requested to speak to a manager.

Hi there! My husband and I have a damn bad experience with Citibank as well. My husband called in to terminate his credit card on 29 May 2011. The phone banking officer advised my husband to pay off $400+ to clear his insurance plans which is tagged to his card.

Best part starting in Oct, Citibank staff called my husband and demanded him to pay $600+ for the outstanding. The card was not terminated at all.

I accompanied him to the main branch and nothing was done.Anyone can tell me to which email should I address this matter to as this is getting out of hand.

Would appreciate if anyone who read this can help me.

the key to resolving the your citibank credit card problems is to walk into any branch and demand to see the branch manager. she will then task one of her staff to follow through. ask to receive an update every week until it is resolved to your satisfaction.
